Performance of “Waiting Music” by Canadian composer Evan Ware
November 15, 2018 @ 7:30 am - 9:00 pm
$3 – $5ABOUT THE COMPOSER: http://www.evanware.com
ABOUT THE WORK:
“In the era of the smartphone, waiting has become an activity almost lost to us. Though
sometimes formless, even boring, waiting nevertheless allows us to wander, daydream,
and wonder; it opens a space to be creative, to be us. This piece is a musical paean to the
kind of accidental unstructured time that used to randomly fill our days. It is also an
appeal to re-consider our engagement with them that they might fill them again. Each
movement takes the music of another composer and subjects it to rhythmic distortions
and canonic processes that transform fragments, or even whole pieces, into new works. I
would like to thank Éric Champagne for commissioning this work as well as Stacey
Brown, Jay Batzner, David Biedenbender, and Michel Longtin, to whom the first four
movements are dedicated. The fifth and final movement is in memory of my friend, Jun
Honda (1987-2018).” Evan Ware
